Between 1890-2018 15 tornadoes were recorded to have impacted Grayson County, Kentucky. One of these, an F3 on May 23 2000 was the first tornado I ever experienced and it ignited my interest in severe weather. Interestingly enough it is also the only tornado to ever approach Grayson County from the North. I have never seen a definitive, detailed analysis on this storm. This is a case study I authored analyzing that very storm.
The analysis covers the preceding days throughout the tornado itself. This was a very complex forecast scenario and is a great example of how monitoring small details over time can help anticipate events that may not be readily apparent.
Please enjoy.
